Friends & Family

Spheres of impact radiate out from each person to their families, their friends, and the larger community. Our treatment plans often include support for family and friends who have been affected by the addiction, and we make an effort to integrate family and friends into the process if possible. We provide guidance, perspective and experiential tools to family members to help them support an individual during the sensitive early months of recovery and beyond.

Interventions

Addiction is a serious, life-threatening disease. It can be devastating to watch someone you love struggle with addiction. Often times, the addicted person cannot ask for help because they are in denial about their addiction. They might not be aware of their self-destructive behavior; it might be necessary for you and others to come together to take action through a formal intervention.

Safe and non-
confrontational

An alcohol or drug intervention is a well-organized and carefully planned process by which an alcoholic or addict is given an opportunity to see how their destructive behavior is harmful to themselves as well as to those around them. Family members and friends join forces to confront a person in a safe, non-confrontational way, with the guidance of an Intervention Specialist. We can make the appropriate referrals.

Keys to a
successful
intervention

Shine A Light can connect you with the appropriate Board Certified Interventionist who can assist you in organizing, planning, and executing an intervention. The main objective of the intervention is for the addict to listen to how their addiction is harmful to themselves as well as others and to become willing to accept help.

Safe transport

When a family has confronted an alcoholic or addict, it is critical that they receive immediate safe transport to treatment. Many addicts feel that they are not yet ready for treatment. Shine A Light Sober Companions have been in recovery themselves for at least 5 years and are trained in helping others come to terms with accepting help. We can provide the care and direction the addict needs to agree to and then travel safely to a treatment center.

Safety and comfort

Leaving treatment, returning home, or entering an unfamiliar place like a Sober Living Environment can make an addict very uncomfortable. If they are uncomfortable, they might feel the need to drink or use drugs. At Shine A Light Recovery, the safety and comfort of our clients is our highest priority. We can provide safe, sober transport and coordinated care for our clients.

High-risk events

Shine A Light’s Sober Companions can be a supportive traveling companion for clients to “high-risk” events such as weddings and out of town business trips.
